Are you really in control or do you just live thinking you are?

In Genesis 17 God tells Abram about the future of his life and his descendants. God does not speak in terms of possibilities but rather with certainty. God assures Abram that this will come about and changes Abram’s name to Abraham (father of many) to remind Abraham of this promise. It is impossible to think of a ninety-year-old woman having a baby. But it is the way God chose to prove His ability to control life and the future. Faith is a matter of control and trust. What control did Abraham have in this? I think God must sit in heaven amused as we live our life thinking we have to take control of it. What did we do to have our sight? What did we do to have our health? What did we do to be born in America? Can we stop our hair from turning gray? Can we stop our health from declining as we get older? Yes we have freedom and enjoy many choices that we use to control our life. We have learned to think that we control our own destiny. Faith is a matter of control! The one who controls our life is our god. We make decisions and we live life as though we have the ability to control the outcome. We do not say it but our life proclaims this thinking that we are better able to control our life than God is! It must grieve God to see our arrogance and lack of trust in Him. His heart must break as He looks at all the fear, worry and strife we live out trying to control our life-something we were never meant to do. God invites us to trust in His control and we will see a life that will display things that only God can do. God will always use situations in life that are overwhelming to us in order to invite us to trust in Him. When we decide to be in control of our life then we decide that we are better equipped than God to determine the outcome. We have really chosen to put ourselves above God! Mike
