A lot of people have asked us why we have decided to go to Africa rather than some place else. For the past several years Mike and I have felt a restlessness. Have you ever felt like nothing satisfies? God may be speaking to your heart at those times. He was us. It took us a while to really listen.
The decision was finally made in the spring of 2009 that we wanted to take a trip overseas. Some of you will remember that we had served as missionaries in Korea from 1982-1984. Frankly we wondered if we could do this kind of work again in our fifties.
We decided we wanted to visit a ministry that was looking for someone like us who could help with discipleship. Mike has had a passion for this since our time in Korea. His research paper for his Community Ministry degree was in discipleship. Also I hope to be able to use my spiritual gift of mercy and skill as a medical assistant to meet needs.
With these things in mind, we were put in contact with CMF International. Our contact here in the states pretty much said “you need to go to Tanzania. The team there is looking for someone like you.” We thought “ok, that is not necessarily a place we ever thought of going.” So, we visited in January . While we were there, God again spoke to our hearts. Before we returned home we knew this is where we wanted to be. Joann
